Caversham Loop

A ride through the heart of the Midlands, with some great opportunities for good coffee, breakfast or lunch. You will definitely feel your legs after 1235 meter of climbing.

Caversham loop map

Curry’s Post and Karkloof area

Curry’s post’s tar forms 10 km of this loop. This stretch is relatively easy and fast as this is mainly downhill. The traffic on this road is not too bad, so the stretch is enjoyable.

Just after Tumblesdowns café, the route takes a left turn onto the gravel road towards Karkloof. Coming from the Curry’s post road, this stretch of Gravel is predominantly downhill, which allows you to enjoy the Farmlands and the view of the Karkloof nature reserve.

After turning left at the 4-way crossing, you will continue through pristine midlands farmland. It’s never completely flat, but the hills are relatively short, and you will be rewarded with breath-taking views of the Karkoof Nature Reserve along the way.

Kyberpass and Elliot’s neck

This, almost 3km long climb, has some steep parts, so pace yourself and remember to enjoy the view. There is a little dam at the summit where you can take a breather.

Once you reach the top of Kyberpass, the hard work is over except for Elliot’s neck. This short but very steep climb will hurt your legs as a final test, but after that you can relax and ride down, with the option to get a nice cup of coffee at Terbodore.

Downhill

After Eliot’s neck, you will arrive at Curry’s post road, and take a right turn onto it. Shortly after that, you will take a left turn, and from there you will have a nice descending road with lovely turns towards the N3.

The cheese maker

After you cross the N3, you will return to Gravel road and pass Indezi River Cheese. This section continuously takes you up and down; probably more up than down though. Keep left at the junctions when heading towards the R103, and if you need a break, you can stop at Caversham Mill.

Piggly wiggly

This gravel road ends at a T-junction (R103) turn left here. You will pass St Yves and Piggly wiggly and continue for 1,5 km till you can turn left before the train station towards Curry’s post. Follow this road, cross the N3 and climb till the T-junction with the Curry’s post road. Turn left here and you can enjoy a well deserved coffee at The Barn Owl Cafe.
